oracle10g - Oracle: Does a 10g oracle client work with an 11g server? -

It is mutually present Currently, I am trying to use an instant client for Mac, version 10.2. There is no 11g version for Mac, based on now (to know the actual version of each platform you have to click on each link ... lame).

I tried to connect to our Oracle 11G server, and it's just hanging forever, are they just incompatible, or something else is messing up?

I would definitely say it should be. Uses SQL * Net Protocol which is essentially unchanged. Here's an example of connecting Oracle 9 to Oracle 10 server.

Oracle @camie: ~ $ sqlplus "aurus / aureus @ THANOS_URS"

SQL * plus: Release 9.2. 0.8.0 - Production on Thurs 25th June 05:55:57 200 9

Connect to: Oracle Database 10G Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64 bit with production, segmentation, data mining and actual application testing options

According to the "people" ... can talk to 11 11, 10, 9 10 at 11,10,9,8,11,10,9,8,7 8 oracles According to the forum, it is defined in Metallank DocId 207303.1, which provides a comprehensive client / server that can talk to 9, 8 7 7, 9, 8, 7 < P> compatible Security metrics I have metallic access is not so sad, so I can not confirm.

If you are experiencing a connection problem, then I recommend that you start with the Oracle warning log on your server machine. To find the location of your Oracle warning log:

  SQL & gt; Choose value from the V $ parameter where name = 'background_dump_dest';

In addition, enabling listener trailing will likely be useful:

  $ lsnrctl LSNRCTL> My Solaris is found in the trace file on Oracle 10 installer:
  $ ORACLE_HOME / network / trace / listener.trc

>

You can see it directly or use the trcasst program in "Format". Note that this is all on the server, not your customer's side.

Hope this will be helpful.
