navigation - Using SharePoint subsites and audience to target content... how? -

I would like to show different tabs in the top navigation of the SharePoint site, which depends on that user's 'audience'. I can fix this for pages but for subsites I can not find any option works around hide the Googling subsite and add a link to the subsite url.

There should be a better way than this!
